Financial Resources for Those Affected by COVID-19

For those experiencing financial hardship during this emergency, we've compiled a few resources for you:

Unemployment Insurance:

  • Hourly/Salaried Individuals in Minnesota: The Minnesota Governor issued an executive order that removed the one week waiting period for unemployment claims. Applicants may now also be eligible if they're quarantined and unable to work, unable to go to work due to an outbreak at the workplace, or lost childcare where the employer can't accommodate them with paid time off or leave. More information about Minnesota's response:
  • Hourly/Salaried Individuals in Wisconsin: The Wisconsin Governor has asked the state legislature to waive the one week waiting period for unemployment benefits. An executive order removes the requirement to search for work while laid off or working with reduced hours. More information about Wisconsin's response:
  • Self employed / 1099 contractors: Neither Minnesota or Wisconsin currently has a solution for UI benefits for workers in this category. Our trade association is actively lobbying to get benefits for self-employed individuals and 1099 contractors, but nothing has been enacted there yet. There are several loan options available due to the emergency declarations and executive orders
    • Minnesota DEED: On 3/23/2020 the governor directed DEED to create an emergency loan program that is 50% forgivable and has a 0% interest rate. More information:
    • SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program: This is available directly through SBA – not local banks. Low interest loans are available up to $2MM with a current interest rate of 3.75%. More information here:
Mortgage Payments (Primary Residence, Second Homes, and Investment Properties):
Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA have all released new payment deferment options for loans owned by them. They've instructed banks and servicers not to charge penalties or make derogatory credit reports. While you may mail your payment to a bank or mortgage company, it's likely owned by one of these three entities. It's important that individuals seeking this help, contact their bank or servicer to set up the deferral before missing a payment. Here are the sites with details.
Auto Loan Payments:
Many auto lenders are offering to defer payments up to six months without penalties or adverse credit reporting. Call your auto lender or visit their website for more information.

Home/Auto/Renters Insurance:
Almost every large insurance carrier is currently offering payment deferments without penalties right now. Contact your agent or carrier directly if needed.
Stay healthy out there!

RE/MAX Professionals Wins 2018 Regional Office Image Award

RE/MAX Professionals was recently named as the recipient of the 2018 Office Image Award for their Lowertown St. Paul office.

"Having a central office location that was easy to get to, visible and accessible to our customers and served the needs of our agents were important goals of ours when we looked for where to expand to next. Lowertown St. Paul was a logical decision and we found the perfect space that we knew would meet the needs of both our associates and clients," said owner Justin Fox.

The Lowertown office features open work spaces, two conference rooms, several private offices and overlooks Mears Park.

"Our design is derived from the historic design elements of downtown. We wanted a crisp, clean and modern feel, with historic charm," says owner Sonya Fox. "It is an honor to be recognized for this award - a lot of thought went into every aspect of the design of this office and we're so thrilled with how it all turned out."

New RE/MAX Professionals Office to Open in St. Paul's Lowertown

ST. PAUL, MINN. – Recently, local broker/owner Justin Fox announced the opening of RE/MAX Professionals in St. Paul's Lowertown. The office will be the first major full-service real estate office in the Lowertown area of St. Paul. It is slated to open this November.

"Significant redevelopment is happening in the Lowertown area and with that comes a great need for professional real estate services." Fox said. "Our new office will be serving a population of homebuyers and sellers who currently do not have an office of local real estate experts in their neighborhood."

This will be the fourth office for RE/MAX Professionals, whose other locations include Stillwater, Cottage Grove and Rosemount. Founded in 2005, RE/MAX Professionals has quickly emerged as a top brokerage for attracting full-time, experienced professionals. In 2016, RE/MAX Professionals was recognized nationally by Real Trends as an "up-and-comer."

Conveniently located where I-94, 35-E and Hwy 52 intersect, Lowertown is the heart of St. Paul. "The office will be located directly across from Mears Park, offering our agents a lot of visibility to serve the community," Fox said. The new office will be fully equipped with private offices, two conference rooms with glass walls, plenty of open work space areas for collaboration and will take on the character of the community with an industrial vibe. "It's going to be a creative place industry professionals will want to come work at and meet clients," Fox said.

"We are very excited to see RE/MAX Professionals expand to the Lowertown area. Their leadership team has always been very progressive, and opening the first major full-service real estate office in an up and coming neighborhood exemplifies that," executive vice president and regional director of the Midwest region for RE/MAX INTEGRA Fiona Petrie said. "RE/MAX is an incredible place for driven, entrepreneurial REALTORS, and we look forward to this new location being able to help even more people achieve the dream of home ownership."

The new office will be located at 356 N Sibley Street #A in St. Paul.
